Saori - works of art to wear and own
Women's workshop develops its own textile designs after a Japanese monk
showed tsunami survivors how to weave and earn a living

You are welcome at the workshop on any working day - Monday to Saturday - to see how the designs and products are made and to examine them to see if you would like to purchase anything.

The workshop was started as a way for women widowed and left without support to earn money to keep themselves and their children.

Today, it is a tranquil place - a welcoming community of women
and girls who are always pleased
to see visitors.

Their range of beautifully made - yet reasonably priced - clothes, accessories and items for the home are constantly changing and nothing is mass produced.

Young Da (left) kindly modelled some of the items suitable for the young and young at heart ... notice her hat, T-shirt, bag and wristband.

In background, the machining goes on while outside hand work is carried on in quiet circles of women
and girls. And if you want to see weaving, that is a speciality of the workshop...

To find it: Drive north from Khao Lak and Bang Niang to Ban Muang; go through the built up area and a few hundred metres further on you will see on the left an official-looking entrance (picture left) ... turn left into it and find the Saori workshop along on the left.
