Children's batik art
Centre that started as art therapy for tsunami children now
produces batik for sale ... all the money goes to the young artists

The batik workshop and shop are in Ban Nam Khem, a fishing village north of Khao Lak and Bang Niang.

You can call in and select from hundreds of pictures and buy them for as little as 50 bahts.

The materials are bought with money from a grant - and so all the sale money goes to the child whose skill has tempted you to buy.

If you want to see the children working or even join in, they are usually there on a Saturday between 11am and 1pm.

To find it: Drive north from Khao Lak and Bang Niang until you come to Ban Muang; as you enter the built-up area, you will see a yellow-roof shelter on the left - turn left there. Follow the road towards Nam Khem vllage; after you pass the temple (on the left), you will come to a junction which is signposted left to the Tsunami Memorial ... you carry on straight and you will see the centre (picture below left)
